National Lottery People’s Projects Campaign Goes Live in UK Stores Today

The retailers of the National Lottery have been urged to make their customers more engaged with a brand new campaign which allows players to vote for local causes which are intended to be funded by the National Lottery.

The campaign, called The People’s Projects, goes live today. Since the beginning of the year, nationwide stores have been visited by the retail teams of Camelot, who were presenting and distributing POS kits and briefing retailers for a couple of months before the beginning of the campaign.

The People’s Project initiative comes as a collaboration between the National Lottery, ITV, the Big Lottery Fund and STV. It comes to provide more information about the direction some of the funding is to be headed to. For more than a decade now, approximately £36 million has been headed to 770 Good Causes on the territory of the UK.

How would The People’s Project work? Customers will be given the chance to find Good Cause projects near their by selecting a certain ITV or STV region and then choose the one they would like to receive funding. Good Causes projects in different regions could also be tracked and voted for. All participants are required to provide their name, e-mail address and postcode, after which they are to receive a confirmation link for their vote. The campaign allows people to vote for one project in a postcode region only, but what is important is the fact that all votes are required to be placed at the same time.

Customers can give their votes in the period from 9:00 AM on March 20th to 12:00 PM on April 3rd.

The People’s Projects campaign provides local residents with the chance to practically see where the funding provided by the National Lottery is headed to. Last year, in September, one of the main sponsors of the initiative – the Big Lottery Fund – invited projects that have already been granted with some funding through small programmes over the past year in order to see if they were interested in bringing their achievements into the light. Then, a total of five projects in each region were shortlisted by ITV, the Big Lottery Fund and STV to provide people with the chance to vote for themselves and decide which projects would get the National Lottery funding.

This year, the National Lottery funding is estimated to £3 million in 2017. The money are intended to be distributed in 19 regions across the UK, with groups competing for about funding of £50,000 to improve the living of people in their communities. The Head of Retail at Camelot James Pearson commented on the initiative, and the opportunity for voting, saying that was a great chance for all retailers to make their customers more engaged with the voting.
